[faqaccordion] FAQ as accordion
Thumbnail picture

This extension combines the functionality of the core module "FAQ list" with that of "FAQ reader"

This extension combines the functionality of the core module "FAQ list" with that of "FAQ reader": categories, questions and answers are shown together on one and the same page ... the answers however are shown or hidden with accordion functionality. Optinally also the questions can be stuffed into outer category accordions (nested accordion).

Images and enclosures in answers are shown. Thus most of the time you won't need the "FAQ reader" any more ... except when you allow FAQ comments. The comments will not be shown in the answer accordion, only a text with the number of comments, linked to the "FAQ reader", which will handle the comments as usual.

Even with the core "moo_accordion" in the page layout the answers are shown as accordions. Nevertheless this extension comes with a variant "moo_accordion_act", derived from the the well known one by xchs (also mentioned in P. Müllers book) flagging the opened questions with the CSS class "active". That way you can format opened questions differently from closed ones, e.g. with a +/- symbol. When using either of these "moo_accordion*" Templates all categories are open always, only questions/answers play accordion. You format the H2 of the categories appropriately.

This display variant is recommended for few categories with a greater number of questions each.

The extension also offers a template "moo_accordion_act_nested" which can be activated in the page layout to achieve a nested accordion for the FAQ, where (by default) all categories and questions are closed, resulting in a very compact initial display.

Recommended, when you have many categories with few questions each.

Note, that you shouldn't try to use this extension for a FAQ with really many questions/answers, all on one page. Best have not more than, say, 20-50 questions per page. Better split your FAQ by categories into several pages, where you then can use this extension with success. Also, if you allow / are really interested in FAQ comments, better don't use this extension ... the comment handling for visitors is rather cumbersom.

In the backend this extension looks almost like "FAQ list": you can enter "Title" and "Headline", most important choose the FAQ categories to show, finally set "Access protection" and "Expert settings".
