Hi all

I responded to an earlier post requesting quidance on using the News module. The post is here http://www.typolight.org/forum/topic/309.html.

Here is my take on setting up News...

Does what I say make sense? and if so is it clear enough? Let me know

1. Create a news archive [in News]. Don't bother entering any news yet, that will be step 5. You could create the news now but would have to come back to link the news items to a page (see step 4)

2. Create a new module [in Modules] using the newsreader module type. Make sure you select the news archive that you created in step 1. Also choose how you would like it to display your news articles ie probably news_full.

3. Create a new Page Layout or modify an existing one so that the newsreader module is included.

4. Create a page [in Site Structure] that uses the above template, this page will show your news articles. You can use an existing page as long as it uses a layout that has the newsreader module.

5. Go back to the News Archive created in step 1 and add some news articles. For each new news article you will need to link it to the page created in step 4 or any other with the newsreader module installed.

6. Create your sidebar news links by using the Newslist module type and one of the template options. Make sure you have selected your news archive.

The links should now take you to the news article.

Mark,

Good tutorial - it makes sense to me! Step 5 may change in a future version, based on the dialog here - http://www.typolight.org/forum/topic/286.html

Step 5 has now changed. Basically, you can set the main page for an archive in Step 1. Then, Step 5 allows you to either go to the default page for the archive, select another page of the site or re-direct to an external page for the full news article.

Mark - maybe if you have some spare time you can post this tutorial in the wiki, so we can get more content in there.

HI all

It has been almost 2 year since Mark's last post. Well I thought of sharing my experience and ways of achieving the goal of setting up news module. Please Mark, I beg your pardon, for I'm continuing on your thread.

1. Create a news archive [in News]. You can add news [ new article ] now or later, but would have to come back to set the 'jump to page'. This 'jump to page' will include a new reader module, which we'll set up now.

2. Create a new module [in Modules]. Select the module type of 'Newsreader'. Make sure you select the news archive that you created in step 1. Also choose a template to display your news articles, probably 'news_full'.

3. Create a new module [in Modules]. This time, select module type of 'Newslist'. Again make sure you select the news archive that you have created in step 1. Choose a template to display your news articles in a short form, may be 'news_short'. Publish the page

4. Create a page [in Site Structure], This will be used to display our news articles, and it will contain Newsreader module later. May be, you can hide it from navigation menu, by checking 'Hide page from navigation'. Publish the page

5. Create another page, [in Site Structure], This will be used to displays a list of news. thats why it'll include Newslist module. Make it show in navigation.

6. Go to [ Articles ], Add a new Article to both pages created in Step 4. & Step 5. include a new element of type module, 'Newsreader' module and 'Newslist' module respectively.

7. If you haven't added news article in 'news archive' created in Step 1. Now add news articles and 'Edited the header of this archive' by clicking the only Pen icon at the top, We will set the 'jump to page' to the page created in Step 4. (which include Newsreader moldule).

8. Thats it, now from the navigation click the page you created in Step 5. It'll show a list of news in short. Click any of news heading or read more. you'll see the new is full (which is actually the page you created in Step 4. with a single news).

NOTE: My approach here is, without changing/creating a layout for displaying a news. But news list is shown in a normal page. If you want a omnipresence short list of news item or list of latest news. you have to change a page layout by including the newslist module in respective column where you want it to appear.

If anyone want another variation, please post and Thanks Mark.
