Hi everybody
I'm just looking for a simple Customer Management Software. SugarCRM or VTiger seem to offer too much unneeded features.
I'm not yet sure what features i really need, but it should be simple, not too bloated. I just want to keep track of customers and have them organized.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Zed,
I agree that typical CRM packages are very bloated, sometimes even when used by large organizations. I'm not sure if your trying to only manage customer contact info or also manage web hosting and billing, but here are some solutions that may meet your needs:
- www.simplecustomer.com ... exactly as the domain says, but no invoicing capabilities
- www.clientexec.com ... manages contact info, notes, hosting accounts and billing, highly recommended
- www.blinksale.com ... hosted customer manager and billing system
- www.factorynova.com ... customer manager, from a project management perspective, also highly recommended
I'll be interested to hear the approach you take and will be happy to answer any questions you have.

Hey Ben
Thank you very much for your suggestions. I will have a closer look at them.
In fact I don't need it for webdesign or webhosting but for some sort of subscription based service. I will tell you more when the project has reached beta status.
It would be great to see when a customers subscription is going to end and when he payed or not. A support tool with a customer history would also be great.
cheers Philipp

Philipp,
It sounds like ClientExec will be a best fit for your project. Although it is designed with web hosting in mind, you can create recurring "product packages" that have nothing to do with hosting. It also has a full support desk built in and a customer sign-up area with e-commerce functionality. Take a look at the demo on their site. The signup section is here (http://demo.clientexec.com/signup.php) and I think you can exclude the domain part of registration.

Hi Ben,
Do you have any experience with SugarCRM and how to use TYPOlight in combination with it?

Clemens - I've installed SugarCRM about 2 years ago, played around with it for half an hour, then deleted it. It seemed good if you had a large sales team that were each calling on 20+ people per day. So ... it was way more than I needed. I'm not sure how it could be used with TYPOlight, though. Maybe it has a feature similar to SalesForce where you can have a web form that automatically populates contact data into the system.

Thanks for your quick reply, Ben.
The reason why I asked is that a client of mine is using the community edition of SugarCRM and we are looking at building a website for them with TYPOlight. Both the CRM and the CMS will have to exchange data with each other. Since you responded to the previous SugarCRM post I thought you might have some experience with it.
Thanks anyway,
Clemens

Hi Ben,
I took a look through your list of CRMs.
I am currently looking for an online project management tool. I checked out factorynova.com which looked good, but is currently unsupported.
I'm particularly looking for a product that supports recurring tasks.
I see it is a couple of years since you compiled your list and was wondering if you had come across anything new?
Cheers,
Gary.

Hi folks
Do you know any good Open Source billing system, which is webbased?
vtiger is fine but templating is almost impossible (php and pdf is quite complicated as you might know
)
What's more is that vtiger has some issues with the pagination...

Hi Ben,
Thanks for the extra 2 links.
ActiveCollab looked very close to what I needed. I have written to their support people and unfortunately at this time it does not support recurring tasks.
As well as web development we also carry out a lot of SEO work. Much of the SEO work involves tasks that recur on a monthly basis ie 4 hours work for client A, 2 days work for client B. The only system I have found so far that will handle this is@task, but they want to charge $65 per month per license (minimum 5) plus (and this really takes the biscuit) $1,000 coaching. Despite pleading with them they are adamant that the coaching fee is mandatory.
My search for something affordable continues.
Thanks again Ben.
Gary.

Overview
Customer Records
General information and history about each customer is linked to their records. New customers can be imported from an online form or entered by a customer service representative.
Service Records
Unlimited services can be assigned to one customer. Services can have as many custom fields as needed to store all the information and attributes for that service. Each service can have unique billing criteria.
Billing Features
Stores general billing information and necessary information about the customer's billing cycle. Can bill on any billing cycle needed, one-time, monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, 6 months, yearly, etc. Billing is able to provide batch credit card exports, printed invoices, or emailed invoices.
Support Notes
Each customer has support notes related to them shown with their customer record. Notes can be sent to individuals or to specific groups of users. Every service activation or de-activation generates notes to create a record of what occured.
Online Account Manager
The online account manager allows customers to view their account services and recent balance and payments. It also allows them to submit support notes to their account via the online form.
I haven't tried it but looks good, and supported.
